You can book a variety of appointments through the NHS app including face to face and telephone with a GP, smear tests and appointments with our first contact physiotherapists.

Appointments can also be made by telephone from 08:30 to 18:30 Monday to Friday.

For on the day appointments, a clinician may triage you over the phone before inviting to see you face to face if they feel its clinically necessary to do so. We do also have a number of face to face appointments to book on the day. 

Availability will vary, but we generally aim to meet the following standards:-

• Medically Urgent appointments with a GP or Minor Illness Nurse on the same day
• Routine appointments with GPs or Nurses within 2 weeks
• To offer telephone consultations.

On arrival at the surgery for your appointment please check in using the automated arrivals system.

If we have your mobile number you will receive a text message reminder to your mobile 1 day in advance of your appointment.

We offer telephone appointments, which can be very useful to follow up problems or deal with issues that do no require a physical examination.

You may be triaged over the telephone before being invited to see a clinician for more urgent problems. Your clinician will arrange to see you face to face if they feel this is clinically necessary.

If for any medical reason a patient is not able to attend the surgery, a home visit may be arranged. Medical facilities at the surgery are, of course, better and we encourage patients to attend the surgery whenever possible.

Please telephone before 11:00am if a home visit is required, or at any time for emergencies.

Appointments are available up until 8:30pm every Thursday and at a weekend at Station House Surgery, please ask our reception team about this.

Please tell us:

• If there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
• If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
• If you need an interpreter
• If you have any other access or communication needs

We regularly have GP registrars attached to the practice. A GP Registrar is a fully qualified doctor with several years of hospital experience who intends to pursue a career in general practice and will spend a year undergoing training in general practice under the supervision of a GP trainer. Dr Jones is the trainer at Captain French Surgery.

We often have 4^th and 5^th year medical students at the practice, usually from Liverpool University. The students are with us for one year and learn about all aspects of family medicine. The students need to talk to and examine patients in order to learn. This is always under the supervision of a GP.

From time to time you may be asked to consult with someone in training or have them present when you are consulting with another doctor or nurse at the practice. If, however, you feel uncomfortable with this for whatever reason you are perfectly free to decline and should discuss this with the reception staff at the time. This will not impact upon your care in any way.
